1st International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence
Conference Date: August 21st – 23rd, 2024
Location: Duisburg, Germany
The 1st International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence invites scholars and experts in artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, accounting information systems, accounting, and auditing, from across the globe to share and exchange their ideas on advancing the auditing profession through the use of AI. Scholars worldwide are invited to contribute original academic research that explores the dynamic interplay between AI technologies and auditing (methodologies).
This event provides a key opportunity for broadening our understanding of how AI is reshaping auditing practices. It provides a unique opportunity to showcase ideas and results that utilize the transformative capabilities of AI in the field of auditing. Of particular interest is research exploring AI-driven innovations in data analysis, anomaly detection, risk assessment, and decision support systems within auditing and across diverse institutional contexts. By bringing together researchers and practitioners from around the globe, this conference format seeks to encourage research that is relevant to real-world practice.
For comprehensive program details, travel arrangements, and logistical guidance, please visit our conference website. Be part of shaping the future of auditing through the lens of AI.
Topics and Research Methodologies
Papers addressing a wide range of issues related to AI in auditing and accounting contexts will be considered.
They may relate to a broad field of (applications of) AI technologies, for example:
- Generative AI
- Large Language Models (LLM)
- Deep faking
- Deep learning
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Outlier and anomaly detection
- Machine learning
- Explainable Artificial Intelligence
- Fraud detection
All research methodologies are welcome, including experimental, qualitative, field study, analytical, behavioral, archival, and design science.
Paper submission
Papers wishing to be considered for inclusion in this conference should follow the Journal of Information Systems (JIS) author guidelines and be submitted via the Mercator Audit and Artificial Intelligence Research Center submission tool.
Journal of Information Systems – Fast Track Option
Selected papers accepted for inclusion in the conference may be considered for publication in Journal of Information Systems (JIS). For authors wishing to pursue this option, at the conclusion of the conference, they are expected to revise their paper based on the comments received from the reviewers and interactions at the conference, and as/if required, go through any additional JIS review process. To register interest in this option, when submitting the paper for consideration for inclusion in the conference, please indicate if you would also like your submission to be considered for inclusion in JIS.
Mercator Audit and Artificial Intelligence Research Center
The Mercator Audit and Artificial Intelligence Research Center is a research and educational center and dedicated to reshaping the landscape of (internal) auditing through the integration of cutting-edge AI technology. Our mission encompasses two key objectives: firstly, to pioneer the development of AI tools and methodologies that elevate the quality and precision of audits, and secondly, to elevate (internal) audit education to new heights, ensuring that future auditors are well-equipped for the digital era.
Central to our approach is the convergence of global researchers and practitioners, pooling expertise to drive forward research initiatives with tangible benefits for the profession. In addition, we foster a dynamic environment for collaboration by hosting regular meetings that bring together research and practice and encourage dialog and knowledge sharing to keep pace with the latest advances in both fields.
